Today the internet blessed us with a video of Pizza Rat, the rat who dragged a whole slice of pizza down the stairs of a New York City subway station. A pizza loving rat who personified the struggle and triumph of living in New York City. Because NYC is a tough town, and sometimes all you want after a rough day is a delicious slice, even if you have to drag it down the stairs.
Pizza Rat is a hero. But he is not the only animal who will go to great lengths for pizza — or any other human food.

Last week, a bear cub found his way into Louie’s Pizza for lunch, in relentless pursuit of pizza. “The animal entered through an open door, walked past the restrooms and found its way into the pizzeria’s prep room,” reported the Colorado Springs Gazzette. He apparently ate some cinnamon bread icing and then took a nap on a shelf, which pretty much describes a perfect day.
3Pigeons On The NYC Subway
The subway isn’t just filled with rats. Pigeons regularly scout subway trains for human food leftovers. In 2002, Randy Kennedy wrote my favorite New York Times article, which details the adventures of pigeons literally waiting for, and then riding, the A train in search of food. Much like the A train itself, the article is a grand journey.
And then there’s Ratatouille, one of the greatest foodie movies — and best animated films — of all time. Perhaps Pizza Rat was aspiring to be Remy. OR…

Everyone made that joke today, so I won’t rehash it. Either way, it’s clear. Everyone loves pizza.
